Yes, planting is just starting in most areas. But it’s not too early to begin planning for improvements to your existing grain bins for this coming harvest.
Important repairs usually involve new Hawk Cut floors and Sweepway power sweeps. A new floor and unload system breathe new life into an old grain bin. Are you unsatisfied with the airflow in your grain bin? You might consider a new fan. However, chances are that your fan (if it’s the correct size) is perfectly fine. What you MAY need is more venting on the roof. If you don’t have adequate roof vents you will not get proper performance from your fans. Any qualified grain bin dealer can asses your venting situation.
It’s too early to know if this fall’s crop will be dry or wet, so I would wait on substantial improvements to heaters and stirring devices until mid-summer.
